Free the Children http://www.freethechildren.com/ is an organization that has existed for 15 years. It was started by a 12 year old boy named Craig Kielburger and has turned into the largest network of children helping children. To date over 55,000 children attend school everyday due to the efforts of Free the Children and over 15 millions dollars worth of medical supplies has been provided and shipped to countries in need. Over sixty corporations have partnered up with Free the Children and MTV is one of them.

MTV's www.mtv.ca partnership with Free the Children exists due to a very important person named Jessi Cruickshank. We all know Jessi as the tall redhead on MTV with a fun, spunky, and witty personality who co-hosts the after show with Dan Levy. Jessi is not only the co-host of MTV's the aftershow but she is an Ambassador for Free the Children since the age of 12. Jessi has tremendously helped Free the Children through her celebrity status by airing episodes of what she has done to help inspiring the youth of Canada to help as well. Without Jessi's involvement with both Free the Children and MTV the two would not be partners so all thanks go to her for connecting the two amazing networks.
Everything that Jessi does for Free the Children can be seen on MTV as she films her journeys and narrates them herself. We have seen her travel to Kenya, Speak at Me to We day, and design her on Me to We T-shirt. She recently travelled to India where she helped build a new school and lived their lifestyle. She has also travelled to Kenya where she lived with a family there and experienced their lifestyle as well. Her efforts to inspire the youth of North America to aid in breaking the cycle of poverty is tremendous and she is commended for her bravery upon her journeys.

On top of Jessi's trips featured on MTV in hopes of raising awareness in the youth of North America, she has also designed a t-shirt and organized an auction in efforts to raise money for Free the Children. Above is the video of Jessi's 6-month journey of making a Me to We t-shirt that is currently sold online today. Jessi's auction was also a very successful event that raised money for Free the Children. The auction was called this is my dress and it was an opportunity for the public to purchase articles of clothing from Jessi and her hills friends closets as well as featured designers such as Dolce &Gabanna and Matthew Williamson. In the end the funds were used to build a school in Kenya through Free the Children's Adopt a Village program.
Jessi Cruickshank was one girl with dreams of making the world a better place. She believed that she could make a difference and therefore joined at club at her school that supported Free the Children. Luckily this young girl utilised her contageous personality and became a co-host on MTV which was the start of MTV's partnership with Free the Children. All of Jessi's journeys and work with Free the Children are documented and aired on MTV and the parntership holds positive outcomes for both companies. Free the Children has recieved thousands of more sponsors and members due to MTV's social networking and media coverage and MTV has tuned in more viewers as they Watch Jessi's journey with Free the Children. A partnership goes hand in hand, and MTV is a perfect example of people working together to acheive something remarkable.
Who's that Girl?
In a World of Beauty- The Diary of Katelyn Scheffee
Imagine a world where every girl, woman, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and grandma looked the same. Imagine every woman dressed the same, looked the same, and acted in the same manner around the world. No uniqueness would exist and not one woman would be different than the one next to her. Its true that it takes all different types of people to make the world go around and Katelyn is proving just that on her journey around the world. On her journey she will make stops in different countries, tribes, and areas around the world that most of us probably have never heard of. In North America being beautiful to most women is being skinny, never aging, and looking like the girl on the front cover of the magazine. What we don't realize is that what we see as beautiful is not what women in other countires see as beautiful. MTCW stresses to be your own kind of beautiful so follow Katelyn on her journey to discover what the women of the world consider as their kind of beautiful

Her first stop is Japan, an island country in East Asia. Here Katelyn learns that women believe their skin is the key to beauty. Having flawless, porcelain, ageless skin is so important that most women eat collagen based foods to ensure less wrinkles.
Next she will travel to the border of Thailand where skin is of less importance. Here it is learned that beauty is seen through the elongation of women's necks by rings. At the age of 5 women start wearing rings and over time they add more to lengthen their neck. The rings are seen elegant and give status to the women wearing them.
Miles away from Thailand, a tribe known as the Maori exists in New Zealand. Women is this tribe consider themslves to be more beautiful after tatooing their lips and chin. Fuller, more blue lips are considered more desirable and attractive than those without.
Katelyn's next stop is in southern Ethipoia where she meets women from the Karo Tribe. These women go to painful lengths to acquire beauty as they allow their elders to cut into their stomach to create scars. Once the women have recieved enough scars they are considered desirable and are allowed to marry and have children.
These are just a few examples of beauty secrets and facts Katelyn uncovers on her journey across the world. She also travels to India, Iran, Paris, Brazil and many other countries around the world. The main sponsors of Katelyn's show will be Frank Ideas and E
xecution Inc as well as Goody. Franks Idea and Executions Inc http://www.justbefrank.com/ is a social media marketing agency that provides entrepeneurs, and businesses support through social network marketing. They are able to help recruit new volunteers, raise awareness, and help build a community to outsource information. The information should be available worldwide therefore Franks Idea will help to show the world a "World of Beauty".
Goody http://www.goody.com/#/grid/default is a brand of hairstyling products that has been around for years. It started from selling rhinestone-studded hair combs on the streets of New York to becoming a well-known company throughout North America.
Goody recently started a not for profit program called "Girls on the Run". This program helps to make girls feel confident in who they are, in whatever setting they might find themselves around the world. Goody will be able to tour with Katelyn and further strengthen their program by instiling confidence in young girls around the world.
Miss Teen Where!?

Oshawa: My hometown has a population of 152,000. It is an average sized city that is home of the Oshawa Generals, GM Centre, University of Institute and Technology, Parkwood, and the McLaughlin Library. Whether you come to Oshawa to shop, or take a stroll there is something for everyone. The Oshawa Centre is a great place to shop while Lakeview Park might be a nice place to stroll. So listen up because I’m going to tell you my favourite spots and give you some insight on what Oshawa has to offer!
Oshawa has been my home my whole life and I love almost everything about it. Not only was I born in Oshawa, but I was born in my house on my parent’s bedroom floor. Oshawa is one of eight cities located in the region of Ontario that I am representing; Durham Region. Durham Region ranges from Brock, a quieter more rural area to Pickering, a busier more urban area.

GM Centre: The GM Centre is located in the heart of Oshawa, downtown. It is a newly furnished building that has two ice pads, a restaurant, a store, and a hall of fame. It is the home of the Oshawa Generals and also various concerts including KISS, INXS, The Tragically Hip, and Hedley this fall. The GM centre is a big part of Oshawa’s community as it hosts many events including one that I had the privilege to participate in called Super Girl Sunday. So if you like to watch hockey, go to concerts, or grab a quick bite to eat this is where you want to come.
UOIT: The University of Institute and Technology is situated on Simcoe St in Oshawa. The university is innovative and based towards 21st century research and learning. It is becoming a more predominant University and as it is becoming more populated it is becoming a bigger part of the city. Its brand new state of the art fitness centre with a gym and running track allows students and athletics to succeed and its green buildings provide students with an eco friendly learning centre. Also in connection with the university is Durham College. The two are very close knit and share facilities. The university provides residence, athletics, learning, entertainment, and restaurants/cafeterias. It may not be old but it is a fun place to be so check it out, you may study here one day!

Parkwood: Parkwood is an estate located in Oshawa, that was the original home to Robert Samuel McLaughlin and his family. At the time, McLaughlin was the founder and president of General Motors and therefore an extremely wealthy man. His family lived in it for many years and in 1989 Parkwood Estate became a national historic site. The home was built in 1915 and contains 55 rooms each built with a classic revival style and georgian features. The mansion was built with an indooor swimming pool, a bowling alley, a gym, and many other features their children could use.
The most stunning aspect of the house is
undoubtedly the beautfil gardens and lengthy fountain. The home also had a tennis court where the family would often play. At the end of the lengthy fountain an outdoor patio can be found which is now used as a "Tea Room" for visiting guests. All in All Parkwood is arguably one of Oshawa's finest tourist destinations. If you would like to relax, go back in time, and experience elegance, beauty, and a taste of the life of the rich and famous Parkwood is the place for you. Step inside a home that has been walked through by many celebrities as the home is also used as a site for films and often a popular place to take photographs. This past June, my school rented out the grounds of Parkwood for Prom pictures and you will see how beautiful it really is in the pictures.
The Oshawa Public Library-McLaughlin Branch is the last stop mentioned in this tour of Oshawa. It is one of my favourite places to go because of its peaceful environment and atmosphere. You can go there to access computers, read, or research. In the summer I frequently walk to the library, an hour and a half walk approximately. I love the feeling of sitting and reading while being surrounded by so many interesting pieces of literature and facts. The library provides knowledge, peacefulness, and a comforatable place to just sit down, relax, and read.

Fiesta Week Parade!
Fiesta Week Parade
Today was the Parade to kick off Oshawa's annual fiesta week. The sun was shining and the streets were filled with music, it was absolutely amazing. The parade started at twelve and took a route that last about an hour. It was so nice to see so many people from the community out to supports all of the different cultures participating in this event. I was in between two floats from Club Carib and I must say they were extremely fun all dressed in an array of different colours! There was one very cool float that this man had made by hand and it was absolutely magnificent. I was also very happy to see all my family and friends there to wave to me as I passed by. All in all it was such a fun day and I was proud to be a part of it. I can't wait to visit as many of the pavilions as I can this week for all of the yummy foods and amazing shows. Big thanks to Russ Charter and Lily for helping to get me involved.

Fundraising
Freezie Sale
Tomorrow is the kick-off to my Free the Children fundraising. I have decided to sell Jumbo freezies at my school during lunch hour as it is extremely hot out! I've made posters, and posted them around my school as well as recruited my sister to help with the sales. Ideas for other fundraisers are always welcome as this month will be busy! I also just wanted to thank Cora and Frank Ideas http://www.justbefrank.com for helping out in launching the new Miss Teen Canada World Website. I'm not the best with technology all of the time and when it came to resizing my picture for the website I was totally lost. So if anyone ever needs to resize an image use the website www.resizeyourimage.com, its simple, fast, easy, and free!
P.S. Don't for to become a VIP member on the www.missteencanadaworld.com website in July and vote for me!
Goodnight everyone:)
Katelyn
What is most important to you?
Just thought I would see what is most imporant to everyone in today's society.
Hoofers Performing Arts
This is it
Today was my last dance recital ever. I have been dancing at Hoofers Performing arts since I was seven, and this year as I graduate from school I also graduated from dance. The memories are countless, and I am going to miss it like crazy. Dance has been a huge part of my life and the studio has been my second home. A big thanks to Angela, Diane, Ashley, Mrs. King, Mrs. Kelly, and Rachel for making my years at the studio unforgettable. I also want to thank all of my friends and family at the studio. You will all be missed and forever in my heart. The theme of this years showcase was Michael Jackson therefore the "This is It" name worked out for being my last year.

Mission Trip- Dominican Republic
Mission Trip
A few summers ago I was able to travel to the Dominican Republic on a mission trip with a group called Hero Holiday. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life, and it was such an amazing feeling to help the people there in need. The kids were friendly, and the famililes were so appreciative. It taught me to not take things for granted, and I appreciate things so much more now. Two months to go girls! Lets all get inspired and raise as much money as we can for Free the Children. It is such an amazing cause and although I travelled with a different group, they are all in it for the same purpose. To help others in need.

Actifest- Senior Games
Hey everyone, time is flying by and its less than two months til we arrive in Toronto! I am so excited to meet everyone and spend the week together. The past few weeks have been extremely busy but I wanted to write to tell you about attending Donevan arena for Actifest. The senior games are being held this summer in the durham region and I had the privilege of being the greeter at the introductory day for this summer's games. It was neat to bring the youth and seniors together, and they couldn't have been nicer. This summer I plan to attend the games and can't wait to see everyone compete and continue living healthy lifestyles. A big thanks to Susan and Evelyn for having me!
Hope all is well with everyone. Good luck with everyone's ISU's and exams ( School is never fun at this time of year) haha:)
